Dr. Anwar discusses trends and opportunities for clean technology companies in China, as well as Long Runn Investment Group’s role in developing this sector by developing public/private partnerships that create new efficiencies and synergies along the entire supply chain.
According to Dr. Anwar, the Chinese government has always had a clear understanding of environmental issues at senior levels, but faces serious training and enforcement challenges at the provincial and municipal levels, where there are not enough officials trained in environmental issues and clean industries given the rapid pace of development. He argues that these challenges will be overcome as the effects of climate change become more apparent to the public, and local governments realize the potential benefits of developing silicon-valley-style industry clusters that attract key industry players as the industry consolidates. Dr Anwar believes “we are going to see a lot of innovation in the field of renewable energy in the future. Right now 40% of the world’s solar energy related products are produced in Jiangsu province.”
